Like other new world vultures, owls and birds of prey, the Andean condor is an important environmental indicator and natural cleaner. Nevertheless, many of these birds find themselves in danger of extinction in Ecuador, mainly due to indiscriminate hunting, deforestation, burning of paramo's, excessive use of chemicals in agriculture, and other inadequate ways of using our natural resources. Apart from that, the general ignorance about the importance of the protection of these birds and their habitat is dangerous for them. We must not forget that the ecosystem is a chain of life, of which we all are part. If we destroy or if we contaminate our environment, everybody, including man, is affected.

Parque Cóndor is located on a hill called Pucara de Curiloma, near the City of Otavalo, at 2800 mts altitude.

We are a foundation, which devotes herself to the protection, rescue, rehabilitation and possible reintrodution in their natural habitat of birds of prey, vultures (Andean condor) and owls.

Our mission is to create conscience about the importance of environmental problems and their relation with society, by taking birds of prey, owls and vultures and their habitat as a starting point. They are important environmental indicators, natural cleaners and important symbols in the Andean culture.

We carry out parallel activities of environmental education that helps us to establish connections between raptors and society. To make our proposals reality we try to be a sustainable centre that promotes ecotourism.
